Maspalomas, Gran Canaria | Holidays in Maspalomas

Maspalomas is well-known for the long expanse of sand dunes and beach, you can take a gentle stroll along the beach up to the light house,( there are some nudist areas along this stretch). However Maspalomas beach is not only known for its enormous field of dunes next to the sea or its great climate. It is also known for its old Lighthouse, which saw the first tourists arrive and watched the area turn into a holiday resort. Ever since it dawned on the very first traveller that the good temperature was no fluke on this endless beach, the Maspalomas Lighthouse has silently witnessed thousands of days of sun, dips in the sea and strolls along the promenade

Maspalomas is another very international crowd of all ages, families, singles, couples.... all nationalities though Maspalomas is a choice if you're looking for more peace and quiet rather than being able to walk to all the hustle and bustle of the night life.
Saying that, it's little more than 5 minutes cab ride in Playa del Ingles. Maspalomas resort itself is virtually all low level and sprawls over a wide area.  The main centre for shopping and nightlife is the Faro II shopping centre which spirals up over a central courtyard.  Children's playgrounds and entertainment surround the shopping centre.  Also near Faro II you will find the regular Rastro
(flea market/car boot sale) which takes place every Sunday between 08.00 - 13.00.  As with any sale like this, let the buyer beware.

A few steps from the Maspalomas Palm Tree plantation (Palmeral) you will find another protected natural space, Charca, which lies between the sea and the sand, providing a resting spot for birds migrating from Europe to Africa. The extensive fields of sands dunes start beyond this ‘pond’, changing their shape continually, modelled by the wind coming off the ocean. From the Lighthouse and heading towards the dunes, walking along the seashore, we reach the Punta de Maspalomas, which connects with the Playa del Inglés. It is really the same beach. Visitors soon take up our healthy custom of walking from one end to the other.

Maspalomas appeal to families (largely British) with young children, as well as couples of all ages. It is the ideal destination for sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts. It is also popular with naturists who like to bare all in the dunes!.Maspalomas has everything you need to make your holiday special, from shopping to restaurants, from beautiful beaches to exciting water sports, from day activities to nightlife. Whether you want a golfing holiday, go on a camel ride, take part in a jeep safari, do a boat trip, or just stay round the pool and enjoy the year round wonderful weather, Maspalomas has it all.

As you'd expect with it being one of the most popular tourist spots on the island, Maspalomas offers a wealth of different restaurants, both sit-in and takeaway, catering to people of all different nationalities and tastes. If you're looking for a particular international cuisine, you'll be sure to find it here. If however you'd like to enjoy more local food, there are many tapas bars providing light snacks and meals, and just as many traditional fish restaurants with fresh daily catches simply prepared to bring out the true flavours.
The nightlife in Maspalomas is lively but perfectly suited for families and couples, offering more sophisticated surroundings than its neighbour, Playa del Ingles holiday resort. There are a large number of bars, discos and clubs of different themes suitable to all tastes including Irish, English, karaoke, salsa, live bands, gay bars, jazz bars, and many, many more
